Behind The Scenes – Week 5 of TY student Abby’s work experience
“The makeup course is a lot more interesting than I thought it was!”
A Busy Day
Today was a very busy day at The Waverley academy! Straight away Joan (my supervisor) put me to work bringing in products from the stock room. Then I made up all the kits for the semi permeant mink eyelash course happening in a few days, and I also did a stock take for the mink lashes to make sure there were enough products. I actually enjoy putting all the products together as I love being organised.
Then I had my usual chat with Derek. Today I learned that sometimes our thinking isn’t always who we are. For example, sometimes we are told negative things about ourselves by other people such as ‘you won’t do good in this exam.’
When this happens, we usually start thinking about the negative thing so much that we start to believe it, when really the best thing to do is question it. Positive thinking really does make a difference.
After that, I was back working with Joan doing in-house certificates for eyebrow tinting and shaping courses and threading courses. I even had the joy of being able to do my friends, certificate as she did one of the eyebrow courses yesterday. This just once again proves that you’re never too young to learn anything!
The Makeup Course
One of my aims when coming on work experience was to learn more about The Waverley Academy courses. So today I got a chance to analyse the makeup syllabus and I soon realized a makeup course isn’t just about doing the perfect eye look.
Students learn about how to apply makeup properly to different face, nose, eye and lip shapes and what order to apply the makeup products in etc. You also get to learn about your skin and understand what products you should be using.
Seemingly all this information is important now as its very hard to get a job in makeup or on cosmetic counters if you don’t know it and have a good qualification. The makeup course is a lot more interesting than I thought it was!
