• Ordinary people doing extraordinary things Meet Linda

A great story – for a great weekend. Enjoy.

“There were times when I said to myself ‘I can’t do this’ but words of support from my fiancé, daughter and teacher, got me through it”.

Meet Linda Hancox – another Mum on a Mission.

“At the age of 21 I became a Mum to Lauren now aged 17.

As a young single mum, I had to work hard to support my daughter. It was tough, but I put every effort into trying to be the best mother for Lauren and bringing her up to be the best person she can be.

Lauren always came first. I’ve had a few different occupations along the way from working in an Estate Agents to working in a hospital. During all this time I was always into makeup and beauty and for years I have wanted to do a makeup course, but I always made excuses that I didn’t have time or the money.

With, The Waverley Academy there is no excuses for this as they offer payment plans and have course schedules to suit everyone. Years later at the age or 37 I was going through a very tough time in my life mentally and emotionally.

My wonderful fiancé and Lauren encouraged me to go do the makeup course as I have always wanted to do it. They have always been so supportive and times when I felt like I have failed they were always there encouraging me and had so much faith in me that I didn’t have in myself.

The first step of making the phone call and actually booking the course was the hard part, but once I did that, I knew there was no going back I just had to do it. A few months on I have now completed my makeup course and received my qualification and already signed up for another course with the Waverley Academy.

If it wasn’t for this college and the incredibly supportive, friendly, welcoming and amazing staff and atmosphere here I would have never completed this course in the mental and emotional state I was in.

The few hours on a Friday morning doing this course had taken my mind off the outside world and I enjoyed every minute of it and always came home on Fridays on a high.

I’d like to mention our tutor Nicola who has been amazing not just as a tutor but as a person I now call a friend. If it wasn’t for her support and encouragement and many words of wisdom I’d never have gotten through these past few months.

There were times when I said to myself “I can’t do this” but words of support from my fiancé, daughter and tutor got me through it. I am so grateful to The Waverley Academy as they have helped me more than they will ever know.

I want to say a huge thank you to Derek, the college director for the amazing opportunity, encouragement and support he has also given my daughter Lauren (Lauren is helping Derek & The Waverley create videos for their social media).

Lauren loves all the aspects of video editing and media and he has given her the chance to show off her talent and we can’t thank him enough. We really appreciate everything you have done for us and I can’t recommend this college enough.

It’s not just a college; it’s a place of support, encouragement and wellbeing and I am so grateful to have been able to get where I am today with the support of The Waverley Academy. My confidence has grown immensely and my future plan is to hopefully start up a home business in makeup and nails. I can’t thank them enough”.
